Supporting Education Learning Skills and Achievement

Earlier this week two members of the Maytrix Group volunteered their services at Hitchin Boys' School, in partnership with E.L.S.A (Education Learning Skills and Achievement - an educational programmes company for young people). We were excited to take the time out, interact with the young people within our community and see how E.L.S.A runs day to day.

At ELSA everyone has the chance to achieve. As a community interest company, ELSA places greater emphasis on social skills, life skills and empowering young people to realise their potential. ELSA works with all young people both in mainstream and specialist education, delivering workshops which encourage debate, discussion, honesty and aspirational pathways, all aimed to increase self-esteem and self-worth.

The day involved lots of interactive sessions to support and build confidence with year 10 boys as they pursue the next steps in their career education.

“The day was magnificent and inspiring, meeting the next generation and supporting them as they navigate future careers. It was also very heart-warming observing the breadth of interesting career choices they had to offer, and witnessing their interview ‘soft’ skills improve throughout the day was a great bonus ”. - Simon Daw.

“Such a worthwhile way to spend a day, supporting young people planning their future career and education goals.  Simon and myself supported with mock interview sessions with over 50 of the 180 young men coming from a broad mix of individual experiences and situations.  We would both love to support E.L.S.A. and the team with any future events” - Kirsteen Williamson-Guinn.
